How do I join?
Step 1: Join as an Associate Member.
Step 2: Apply for the Audite programme.
Step 3: Complete the Better Conducting classes
Step 3: Apply to become a Full Member.
How many people are in this programme?
This varies from year to year. The final number accepted for any class or event is decided by the Directors depending on the quantity and quality of the applications we receive.
How much time will I get with the orchestra?
Full members who join the Budapest class normally have the chance to conduct the orchestra on at least two occasions, and possibly more. Associate members can attend all classes and may get the opportunity to conduct the orchestra.
Will I be able to review my work on video?
All sessions are filmed, in the case of orchestra sessions this is normally with multiple cameras and high quality sound. All class members can review these materials.
Who decides who conducts the orchestra?
For each session the CA Directors decide which conductors will work with the orchestra, the repertoire to be covered and the amount of time allocated.
Does that mean I might be a passive participant?
There is no “passive”! We believe that many masterclasses place too much emphasis on personal podium time. This programme is organised in such a way that, irrespective of whether they are conducting the orchestra or not at any given time, everyone should be actively engaged in developing their knowledge.
How many conductors perform at the final concert?
Three conductors will be selected to give a performance at the final session. The expectation is that those chosen are capable of giving a performance without rehearsal.
Do I need to learn the entire programme?
Yes, these are enormously rewarding pieces for study! Every conductor should be aware of the challenges they present and ways these can be resolved.
If I cannot attend the online classes for some reason, can I still join the live classes?
We strongly recommend being present for all sessions of the online classes. Since this is not always possible, all sessions are recorded. If you have to miss any you can still review the video and are expected to do so.
Can I watch the whole Audite programme online?
We believe that there is no substitute for direct personal experience – and previous participants’ feedback reinforces this view. Therefore at the present time the Audite programme in its entirety is only available to those who have attended before.
How is the scholarship support funded?
The programme was initially launched with funding from Classic Concerts Trust. Since 2025 we have been operating independently. Creating a financially stable basis of operation without the need to charge commercially viable rates is a key objective for the coming years.
